New Car Chip Shortage

It’s the 2020’s, and it does surely seem like anything can happen to and around folks in Canyon Lake and beyond. A semiconductor chip shortage, of all things, has brought multiple industries to their knees – the automotive industry included – largely as a result of a worldwide pandemic and increased electronics demand. You might’ve come here asking if there was a Toyota chip shortage. Nope – there’s simply a worldwide chip shortage, meaning a new car chip shortage. Keep reading to check out our guide to the impact of the chip shortage on the automotive industry, courtesy of the team at Temecula Valley Toyota in Temecula. What Uses Semiconductor Chips?
It’s really not just Toyota reeling from the chip shortage, and it’s not just the entire new-car industry either. Quite literally everything that uses semiconductor chips is at a significant loss right now. The manufacturing of everything from solar panels to 3D printing machines is at an expensive, screeching slowdown. Computers, game consoles, and calculators are also examples of items that use such chips.
Toyota and the Chip Shortage
1,400. That’s a rough estimate of the amount of semiconductors in a modern vehicle. This staggering number means that these semiconductor chips, in short supply as they are, have left hundreds of thousands of vehicles incomplete, parked in large lots across the US and beyond. Toyota is sadly no exception to participation in this temporary graveyard of incomplete cars. Unfortunately it’s all that can be done in the meantime while more chips are made. It takes on average about two months to produce one semiconductor microchip!
